Some years a friend booked himself onto a time management course – only to unbook himself within hours as he had forgotten about another engagement that day. Sometimes I feel in a similar boat. I keep looking at the folders of Civil War and War of Independence photographs and thinking that I need to get the rest of them uploaded. There is so much more not uploaded than is on the website – over 150 memorial sites. I think I will need to take DOT’s advice – There is only one way to eat an elephant – one bite at a time. When in Corca Dhuibhne, I got another lesson that I will probably never photograph all of the memorials. We stayed in the same house as last year so I travelled the same roads. In the past year, a new memorial has been erected – to Tomás Ó Súilleabháin, just outside Ballyferriter – within a few hundred yards of where we stayed. Many thanks to TOL for bringing it to my attention. Café Litearta did tempt me with ‘Dying for the Cause’ by Tim Horgan – a very interesting book which gives a mini-biography and details of death of those who died in the Civil War and War of Independence in Kerry. It mentions if the name is on a memorial so I suspect it will provide a roadmap for possible future trips West. |
