It is not just Benny McCabe’s pubs that have poetry engraved into stone and mounted on walls.
When in Galway recently, I did stop to read the poetry on the wall of The Connacht Tribune. Is this not an addition to the streetscape and the community spirit of the city centre?
I know I am in a minority but this would make me more inclined to purchase the Connacht Tribune than any neon sign or glitzy poster which might have been an alternative for the wall space.

  | THE TRIBUNE In this one I am going over a hill the bus negotiates with tremendous skill. The light is changing as we pass old people standing stock-still. The country edition’s dropped at half-lit shops where we stop and wait for a wave of a hand. News that travels is never late. GERARD DAWE |
