A Street Library? | Is Art Here Good? |
During the afternoon, I spotted these Utility Company equipment boxes that had been decorated and had messages on them.
I was very well impressed with the intent of Dublin City Council to add atmosphere to the streetscape – definitely more Barcelona than Ireland. Their means of seeking public involvement also was novel – definitely beats a public notice in a newspaper for impact and attention grabbing.
I am not sure on the street library but I think that these boxes should all be decorated for a variety of reasons – for the benefit of the public as they pass by; as a means of promoting art; and, as a means of controlling wanton graffiti. The painting of the Cork Opera House wall was partly done to eliminate further graffiti.
From their website, it appears that the decoration took place last year. Even if late, I will be communicating my approval.
As for Leonard Cohen – what a show, what a performance.
Hallelujah followed by the reciting of A Thousand Kisses Deep was enough to keep our seven year old delighted. And we got so much more.
‘ I loved you when you opened
Like a lily to the heat.
I´m just another snowman
Standing in the rain and sleet,
Who loved you with his frozen love
His second-hand physique -
With all he is, and all he was
A thousand kisses deep.
But you don't need to hear me now
And every word I speak
It counts against me anyhow
A thousand kisses deep ‘
Leonard Cohen
