When did Christianity begin?
BUT Jesus is said to have told his mother at wedding at Cana that ‘my time has not yet come’ – so should that then be the beginning of Christianity
AND what does that infer about the Old Testament
AND If Christianity is the following of Christ, should that not be when the disciples started which was probably not when Jesus Christ was new-born
SO sign may be twenty years or so too early
Counting Years
The change in the sixteenth century from Julian calendar to Gregorian calendar means that every current year is 0.0075 days shorter than the years prior to 1582.
SO 2,000 of the current calendar years after 25 December, birth of Jesus Christ, would have been 14 December, 1999 and not 17 March, 2000
Why place Plaque?
I have a perception that there is now a definite desire to have Church and State separate and also seen to be separate. I had thought that this independence of civic and state functions from religious association was reasonably well set prior to 2000.
I was surprised that Cork City Council sought to honour 2000 years of Christianity.
But when one considers its location, on first floor of City Hall, which is not that prominent, maybe others were not too proud of public recognition.
