Ian’s blog introduced me to this street art installation. Yesterday, on my trip to Dublin, I stole some me-time and headed for Richmond Street/Richmond Place to photograph this myself. So simple but so effective. I have complimented all on the installation at Singer’s Corner but there are so many other deteriorated corners that could do with a facelift as simple as a few words to lift spirits and pose some thought. Times are still hard so any feelgood time is to be encouraged. | “Seamus Heaney's last words 'Noli timere' – 'Don't be afraid.' |
‘Happiness is a Cigar Called Hamlet’. For those of a certain age, me included, Air on a G String as well as the use of the expression ‘Happiness is’ will have memories of particular ad – my own preferred being the jockey but there are many others including the motorcyclist, and the puppy. Just before six this evening, after a tiring day in Dublin with the rain and the traffic, I stopped at Butlers Coffee stall in Heuston Station; purchased my double espresso and received my ‘complimentary’ Salt Caramel Chocolate. My thoughts were of the taste and enjoyment as I walked to the train – not a long walk, but one with anticipation of that relaxing moment. Reading the cup did bring to mind the old Hamlet ad. Drinking lukewarm double espresso was such a disappointment. Briefly, I looked around but there were no hidden cameras and no box of Hamlet to tempt me……… | |
I am still not a fan of changing the names of stadiums (or Stadia if you prefer) or venues. I can understand the financial benefit of allowing some body corporate to attach their name but for me it remains Lansdowne Road – and will continue to do so. This evening, listening to the radio, there was talk of a boxing bout at the Three Arena and I was reminded of these photographs taken last February, of what was, is and will remain, for me and Luas anyway, The Point. Two, Three, Four or the like may come and go – no Point remembering any of them….. |
Two weeks ago, walking along Thomas St in Dublin, killing time before meeting someone, I received a further reminder than time is passing by and my plans for a walk to Santiago have not been advanced in any way. The vague itinerary is to walk from Dublin along a canal before turning south for home. Option 2 is a combination of the Wicklow Way, South Leinster Way and Blackwater Way. The non-motorised means of travelling over the sea most probably involves cadging a lift of a sailboat heading for Biscay and then continue walking. There is a hope that by typing these words and putting up this blog that this will not remain as a vague plan, that it will be developed as a detailed route map and that some dates will be allocated. Message to self – put up…… or shut up. |
A few weeks back, I was in Dublin and came across some wall art in the Thomas Street area that I thought warranted a blog. I do like the large installation by Marcamix or is it MultiplicityDublin…. |
From Cork.
Old enough to have more sense - theoretically at least.
