This is located on the Cork side of Dripsey.
I took this photograph just over a year ago. In the intervening period, I have intermittently pondered as to why. I have passed three or four times and on those occasions would have thought of the sign for the miles onto Coachford or beyond.
I have spotted some signs saying ‘private property’ on what would appear to be public paths or roads. I always assumed these to be a throwback to the property owner’s lands extending to the middle of the road but the Council/State having use of the path and road.
As an aside, I recall hearing of issues when the Belgooly to Kinsale road was straightened, the old road surface was no longer in road or path use and the adjacent owner sought to reclaim ownership back to the middle of the old road.
I suppose that this is the long way of saying that I have yet to find a reason why someone might state their ownership of lands so publicly on the gate to such lands.
Any ideas?
