Then it got me thinking and questioning as to whether there was a dot over the ‘i' when one used the Irish script – and if so how did one distinguish from ‘i' and ‘ı' – or if one needed to.
With some in the group well versed in matters Gaeilge, I was quickly educated that:
There is no dot over ‘i' in the old Irish script
‘I’ does not take a buailte, as that is restricted to certain consonants.
We all did agree that it did look rather odd.
