JG very much enjoyed his articles in the Irish Times but me purchasing the Irish Times was a victim of the Celtic Corpse, so Staring at Lakes was new to me.
Maybe it was the ‘me’ at the time, but the book really hit home. It shot up the list of favourite books. Nearly a year later, it still remains high up the list.
His catalyst was how a dishwasher is filled. Whether it is when others throw knives into the sink when others are doing the wash-up; how a car boot is packed; or, simply how the toothpaste is squeezed, I suspect that that most have a bugbear that grates to a greater or lesser degree – it is only how far from the tipping point that differentiates. My preference is for a quiet beach with the noise of the wind and crashing waves but can understand the attraction of just looking at a lake. Go on. Read it. I have heard Michael Harding on the John Murray Show when his Murray Christmas cd was launched. I have watched him on Saturday Night Show. This has led me to watch interviews on Youtube. When I read of his ‘Hanging with the Elephant’ tour, I was hoping to catch at least one. My mind was hoping that, as it is mid-term, I might be able to take Friday off and get to Glór tomorrow but that has not worked out. For those close to Ennis, I hope you enjoy. I will probably have to wait another few weeks. | |
